SiteClip Privacy Policy
Your privacy matters. Learn how SiteClip by Seedfist handles copied website text, stores clipboard history, and gives you control over your saved information.
SiteClip by Seedfist is a Chrome extension developed and distributed by Seedfist Consultancy Services.
This policy explains what information the extension handles, why it handles it, where it is stored, and how users can manage their saved clipboard history.
SiteClip's core functionality is designed to keep clipboard history in the user's local browser storage. Users should review this policy before copying information they do not want retained.
01 Information the Extension Handles
When a user copies selected text on a website where SiteClip's content script is active, the extension may capture and save:
- The selected text copied by the user.
- The URL of the page where the copy event occurred.
- The date and time associated with the copy event.
- The character length of the copied text.
This information is used to create and display clipboard-history entries, identify the source website, and let users copy saved text again.
Because users can copy text from many kinds of websites, saved text may contain personal or sensitive information, depending on what the user chooses to copy. Users should avoid copying passwords, authentication codes, payment details, health information, private communications, or other sensitive content into SiteClip unless they are comfortable retaining it in their browser's extension storage.
SiteClip does not need to interpret the meaning of copied text to provide its clipboard-history functionality.
02 How Information Is Stored
SiteClip uses Chrome's
chrome.storage.local API to store clipboard history
in the user's browser profile. Saved entries may include copied
text, source URLs, timestamps, and character lengths.
This storage allows saved entries to remain available when the popup is closed and reopened, subject to Chrome's storage and browser-profile behavior.
The extension implementation described by this policy does not require a Seedfist account or a remote backend to provide its core clipboard-history functionality.
Local extension storage is separate from a user's system clipboard. Copying an entry from SiteClip writes text to the system clipboard; it does not mean that the extension needs to upload the entry to a server.
03 How Information Is Used
SiteClip uses clipboard-history information only to provide its core features, including:
- Displaying saved clipboard entries in the extension popup.
- Showing the source website and copy timestamp.
- Displaying the character length of saved text.
- Allowing users to copy saved text again.
- Allowing users to delete individual entries or clear history.
SiteClip does not intentionally sell clipboard-history information or use it for targeted advertising.
Information handled by the extension must not be used for purposes unrelated to these disclosed features without appropriate review, notice, and any consent required by law or applicable platform policies.
04 Sharing and Disclosure
In the implementation described by this policy, clipboard history is stored locally and is not intentionally transmitted to Seedfist or other third parties. The described implementation does not include an analytics or advertising integration that collects clipboard-history content.
SiteClip's privacy statements apply to the actual extension package distributed through the Chrome Web Store. Users should not assume that information is never transmitted if a future version adds online synchronization, analytics, remote processing, or other network-dependent functionality.
If data practices change, Seedfist will review the extension's implementation, update this policy as appropriate, and provide any disclosures or user choices required by applicable rules.
05 User Control and Deletion
Users can delete an individual saved entry or clear all saved clipboard history through the extension popup.
Deleting an entry removes it from SiteClip's saved history. Clearing all history removes the saved entries maintained by the extension in its local storage.
In the current implementation described by this policy, deleting an entry or clearing all history also attempts to replace the system clipboard contents with an empty string. This may remove text currently copied for use in another application. The result depends on whether the browser allows the clipboard operation to complete.
Deleting an entry from SiteClip does not guarantee deletion of other copies of that text, such as copies retained by websites, other applications, operating-system clipboard managers, or other services.
06 Permissions and Website Access
SiteClip requests permissions needed to provide its disclosed functionality:
- Storage: Used to save, retrieve, and manage clipboard-history entries in Chrome's local extension storage.
- Clipboard write: Used to copy a selected saved entry to the system clipboard. The current deletion behavior also attempts to clear the system clipboard.
- Website access: The content script runs on matching websites to detect copy events, capture the selected text, and record the page URL and related entry information.
The extension's broad website matching pattern is intended to let users maintain clipboard history across different websites, rather than only on a predefined list of sites. As a result, its content script may run on many websites the user visits.
Website access is not used to claim that SiteClip reads every page or records every browsing action. Its intended capture behavior is tied to copy events handled by the content script. Browser restrictions and website behavior may affect whether the script can run or capture selected text on a particular page.
SiteClip does not require the scripting or
clipboardRead permissions in the revised manifest
described for this policy. The extension should not request
permissions it does not need.
07 Data Retention and Security
Clipboard-history entries remain in Chrome's local extension storage until the user deletes them or clears the history, subject to Chrome's storage and browser-profile behavior.
Users can reduce retained information by deleting entries they no longer need and avoiding copying sensitive information.
SiteClip relies on browser-managed local storage for its clipboard-history feature. No claim is made that this storage is an encrypted vault or a substitute for a dedicated password manager or secure secret-storage system.
Users should protect access to their browser profile and device. Anyone who can access the relevant browser profile or use the extension may be able to access saved clipboard-history entries.
08 Children's Privacy
SiteClip is a general-purpose productivity tool and is not specifically designed to collect information from children. The extension does not intentionally seek to collect children's personal information as a separate feature.
09 Changes to This Policy
This policy may be updated if SiteClip's features, permissions, data practices, or applicable requirements change. The latest version will be published on Seedfist's official website.
Users should review this page periodically, especially after significant extension updates.
